What is RSS?
It stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is an alternative way to
get fresh information you want delivered to you directly.
Why not just email? Email
has been a great way to get information to people but over the last few
years, people are becoming overwhelmed with it. Further, spam filters
frequently block email...even email you have requested such as
newsletters. RSS is instantaneous and a time saver. The information is
sent immediately to you in a condensed format with a link if you want
complete details.
Why should you make
the effort to join WAHS's RSS feed? If you are looking for
up to the minute work-at-home jobs, work-at-home tips or information,
reviews or recommendations, you will want to make the effort. I will be
posting jobs and news frequently ... even daily. The WAHS RSS feed will
allow you have the most current information as its posted whereas the
ezine delivers only once per week.
How does it work? To
get WAHS's RSS feed you will need a "Feed reader". There are many feed
readers available. I will recommend two just for simplicity sake. The
best option (in my opinion) is FeedReader. This is a free
downloadable software that will read WAHS's RSS (or any other RSS) that
you want to read. I like this option because when I'm online, it
automatically shows any new information the minute its posted. Imagine
having new jobs on your desktop
the minute I load them? To set up FeedReader, simply download and
install the program (at Feedreader click the link near the
top that says "Download latest version). Click on the Feedreader icon
on your desktop which will open an icon on the bottom toolbar on your
computer. Click on the icon on your bottom toolbar to open the reader.
Click on, "New Feed" and paste the following URL into the box: http://www.workathomesuccess.com/wahsrss/wahsrss.xml.
That's it. You will see the WAHS RSS feed and any current news, jobs or
other updates I have posted. Simply click on the info you want such as
"Recent Job Posts" to find out what new jobs have been posted. The
reader will give you a summary of what was posted. Click the "Read on"
to get full details.
The other option is to use Bloglines.
Bloglines is a free web-based feed reader. This option requires you to
visit and login to Bloglines to read your RSS feeds. But again, if you
have many RSS or Blog feeds you like to keep up with, you can have them
listed all in one place at Bloglines (you can even add my blog,
Confessions of a Stay and Work-At-Home Mom).. To set up your WAHS RSS
feed at Bloglines, sign-up for an account for free. Log into your
account and click on "My Feeds". Copy and paste WAHS's RSS url http://www.workathomesuccess.com/wahsrss/wahsrss.xml
into the box provided and then hit the "subscribe" button. You will be
asked if you want to preview the feed and below that you can tell
Bloglines how you want the feed to appear. The easiest thing to do is
just click the "subscribe" button below all that. Then to read the new
items, click on Work-At-Home Success Jobs, News and Updates (should
appear on the feed list to the left of your screen). You'll see a list
of current items. To read the full articles or jobs, just click the
Title of each item.
If you have a MAC you can get a
free feed reader at NetNewsWire. Scroll down to the
bottom of the page for the free version.
