Tips, Tidbits and Inspiration

Note from Leslie: Many people tell me they can't work at home because they don't have the time. Although I don't come right out and say it, I don't agree. We all have the same amount of time. But some people use it better than others. I struggle with time because I'm organizationally challenged. Nevertheless, just this week I have created a proposal and built 3 web pages for the WAHS Expo, researched my Google Adsense to learn more about how to maximize it, listened to 3 trainings online, made and showed up for 5 business appointments (by phone), wrote this newsletter, wrote and submitted a press release regarding next week's teleseminar, added to my blogs, made a home visit for my telecommuting job, got my kids to their activities, took them to the library, ran errands, signed up for and kept on pace with National Novel Writing Month, started the new JD Robb book, played with the kids, visited with my husband, and slept. My house isn't the cleanest and my clean laundry isn't folded, but those don't bring me income or pleasure so they aren't a priority. It's not how much time you have, its how you use it. Here is an article to help with time management.

The Benefits Of Time Management

By Ricky Lake

The benefits of time management go much farther then just being more effective at getting your work done. With proper time management one can begin to be proactive and work toward achieving their goals rather then being reactive. People who follow through on the goals that they set for themselves will most likely be successful in their lives.

Practicing good time management takes self-discipline but once you see the benefits of managing your time better, things will fall into place. You will notice great improvements in your work performance and getting tasks completed will seem to be nearly effortless. Making a to-do list helps as you can see what you have to do on paper, making it easier to prioritize tasks. Putting off the difficult jobs can only help your day seem more chaotic as you will be constantly trying to catch up.

>

Part of good time management techniques might involve getting a routine in place. As you get used to the routine you have set for yourself, you will notice that the daily tasks that you have to do become easier and do not take as long. You will be freeing up some of your day to pursue your goals for life. You will see improvement in your profits of business as well as in your career and home life.

When you start keeping track of where you spend your time and what you spend it on, you will begin to see where you are wasting time. You will be able to see what parts of your day need more attention and what parts are working well. With a routine and set schedules in place, your once hectic day will become a thing of the past. You will also notice an overall improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence as you are able to master any task at hand with much more ease than before.

Incorporating time management skills into your daily routine will greatly improve many aspects of your life. There are many books on the market as well as helpful tools and sites on the Internet that offer assistance in getting more organized. There are even some classes available that help teach good time management skills. Success depends on self-discipline in following the schedules you have set for yourself. If you find that the schedules are a bit difficult, it might be time to reorganize them.

Marketing Tips

If Only You Weren't Selling It...

By Kim Klaver

If only you weren't selling it, you could go on and on about how you love it madly.

But who wants to listen to anyone go on about how great something is when you know they're also selling it?

In our society, what you're allowed to say about something you like (and get an open and unsuspecting mind at the other end) depends on whether you're selling it or not.

Pretend you just got the new Power Mac. Of course you're supposed to show and tell your friends. And if you just got that new motorized stroller, you show it off to your friend, and she's usually all eyes and ears. They call that word of mouth - among friends.

Some say that's the coveted form of advertising because people are telling each other about things that work in their lives and they have no known ulterior motive. It has social value - you to pass on good information that might help someone else. Plus it's fun to be the one to tell someone else about something good, fun or useful that they didn't know about before.

BUT...when you happen to be selling the thing you're going on about, suddenly no one wants to hear your good words anymore. Ask yourself: How much time do YOU want to spend listening to someone else extolling the virtues of something, when you know they're also selling it?

And the thing is, EVEN if the wonderful things they say about it are true, when someone is selling it, the truth is suddenly suspect to all who are listening.

Of course we know why: sales and marketing types have lost our trust. We've been fooled so often that one new best-selling business book is entitled, "All Marketers are Liars."

Seems we've concluded that sales and marketing people who will say whatever they have to, to try and sell you something - overstatements and misrepresentations are common. Here's what happened to me last week. "You've Been Pre-Approved"

Seems like the only way people believe each other about new and fun things is if they're not also selling it.

So what do you do if you sell stuff you DO really love madly?

1. Tell the other person right up front that you ARE selling the product.
2. Tell WHY you decided to sell it. What did it do for you that made you decide to sell it?
3. Make NO promises about what might happen for them. Only tell what happened for you.

Remember the very famous and successful TV ad with Victor Kiam, the guy who bought Remington? He came on black and white TV in the 70's, in his bathrobe, held out a razor, and announced to everyone watching: "I liked this razor so much I bought the company."

We can do that, can't we?

THEN you have taken ANY possible hidden agenda out of it. And then you get some credibility. Because you have just bared all: You are marketing it, because of what it did for you. And you make NO gushy promises about what it will do for them.

That's one thing we show you in the book, "If My Product's So Great, How Come I Can't Sell It?"

If you have other language and techniques that have given you credibility when you describe the wonders of your product to a prospect, please share. Use the 'Comments' section below. I for one am waiting with bated breath.
