Notes From Leslie
Ooops! I sent your newsletter a day early. That's what I get for being organized. I knew I wasn't going to have much time today or tomorrow (teacher workday so kids will be home), so I got up early to finish the newsletter. It felt like a Friday, so I sent it out. Hopefully you won't mind too much!

I have a new distraction.
Its YouTube. That combined with trying to pick up the social networking pace, I feel I haven't been very productive this week. However, I'm nearly ready for Work-At-Home Scam Prevention Week. If you have a website or blog, and would like to partner with WAHSPW (spread the news and get a link), visit here for details.

I've also starting planning a podcast,
Web Working Woman (men are allowed too!). This is turning out to be a good move as my editor is interested in a book about women on the web.

Finally, I'm working keeping up with my social networking.
If you'd like to connect, you can find me here:

Work-At-Home Scam Prevention Week is coming March 17 - 23. I have posted a new site that details work-at-home scam prevention information. There's still a few pages that need to be completed, however I hope to have the site finished shortly. Take a preview at Work At Home Scam Prevention.

How to Use WAHS Jobs and News: On occasion I get an email from someone who can't find the jobs posted in this newsletter, so I thought I'd give a quick overview on how to use the ezine.  In the section above this one, you'll find the contents of this week's ezine. Each feature now has a link so you can easily find the information you are looking for.  Each feature (Notes From Leslie, Tidbits, Jobs, etc) is separated by a color divider which the section contents indicated in the divider. For example, if you scroll down you'll find a blue divider that says, "Tips, Tidbits and Inspiration". Below that section you'll find a green divider that says "Work At Home Jobs".

I also want to point out that the only jobs (employment) listed in this ezine are listed in the Job section.  Any other work-at-home opportunities you come across will be affiliate programs, home businesses or work-at-home resources. So if you are hear solely for the jobs, you'll want to stick to the Work-At-Home Job feature.

Quick note on ads... I just want to remind readers that Work-At-Home Success  does accept advertising. Every attempt is made to check ads to make sure they offer legitimate opportunities. I have refunded or refused ads in the past that were found to be suspect. The site also feeds ads from Google Adsense. I do try to screen ads run through this service and block the scams; however, new ads are added all the time and they rotate making it difficult to always find the duds. If you find an ad that is questionable, please email me so I can remove it ASAP. Also, while WAHS runs ads, that doesn't mean it endorses the product or service offered. To learn more about WAHS's policies, visit WAHS Disclaimer Statement or see special notes below.

What Does It Take To Work From Home?

By Lynn Powers

So you think you’ve got what it takes to work from home and are ready to take the plunge. Good for you! Maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom looking for a little extra income. Or perhaps you want to quit your full-time job to focus more on your family. Whatever the reason, there are few things more satisfying than taking control of your time and your income potential. But, as you are probably aware, with your so-called freedom and flexibility come many challenges.

Here are a few challenges you will likely face as you make this transition into work-at-home momhood.

Discipline to Work - You know that the laundry will be calling your name. The temptation to scrub those dishes will be ever present, as will the desire to call your best friend to chat instead of making those business calls. Being home all day puts you in a major distraction zone. There are certainly things that have to be done but without the discipline to actually get to work, your work-at-home business will be shutting down in no time.

Discipline to Rest – On the flip side, you need to know when to quit. People who work from home are more likely to describe themselves as workaholics. Because your office is only a few steps away, work is always in sight and on your mind. And it often takes discipline to refocus your energy and your thoughts on more important things – like your family.

Flexibility. Realize that things are bound to happen that require you to be able to drop what you are doing and pick it up at a later time. Illness, appliance repairs, school matters, and other interruptions that are beyond your control. The good news is most women are naturally better than men when it comes to multi-tasking. We can talk on the phone, feed the baby and type an email at the same time. When you work at home, you need to be able to switch hats at record speed and sometimes wear several at once.

Isolation. If you’re known as a social butterfly, the isolation you will encounter when working from home will certainly be a challenge. There may be days when you feel lonely and desperate for some adult interaction. Be sure to regularly make time for lunch or coffee with a friend, sign up for an occasional educational class or lecture, or schedule play dates for your kids along with other moms who also need to get out.

Organization. Research shows that an unorganized office or home results in added stress. There is much wisdom in the adage: A place for everything and everything in its place. Of course, you actually live in your home and work in your office so spotless and completely clutter free is virtually impossible. However, simply taking a few moments each day to de-clutter and straighten things up will do wonders for your sanity.

One last thing you’ll need to acquire is the ability to cut yourself some slack. If you have an unproductive day, tell yourself tomorrow will be better. Give yourself plenty of room for making mistakes and learning just what it takes to work from home. As you begin this new venture of work-at-home mom, hopefully you’ll find that any challenge you’ll face won’t compare to the blessing of being home with your kids.

Marketing Tips

Your Brand Is Your Promise! (so What Are You Promising?)

By Phillip Davis

When people mention the word "brand" they usually mean a well known, well defined company. That's why consumers frequently mention names such as Target, Rolex, Apple, BMW and others who have done an excellent job in crafting an image and sticking with it. Buyers know what to expect from these companies, and as long as these companies meet that expectation, they will continue to imprint their brand in the minds of our their audience. It's pretty simple really, if you just keep in mind these two principals.

Principal One: Know your promise.

As amazing as this may seem, most companies don't really know what it is they are promising their clients. That's why they have weak brands. They may have mission statements, and can spout off why everyone should use their product or service, but really it's just a rambling list. Out of fear of losing audience, most companies will try to compete on price, quality and service... and that's a recipe for disaster. Who wants to buy a watch from the Discount Overnight Rolex store? If you try to go after all three areas you end up muddied in the mind of the consumer, who is trying to put you in a box. And in this case... that's a good thing!

A mental "box" is not that different from a set of mail room boxes. The customers gets all these incoming "messages" and has to sort them all day. The easier you make it for them to sort your company, and put it in a category, the easier it will be for them to recall it when needed. Try this... think of a fast place to eat. How about the best tasting food? And finally, the place you go if you really want to impress someone? You can probably think of each of these categories rather quickly. And chances are, these companies are more than happy to fill that niche without trying to become much more.

Take a moment and write out in two or three sentences (more if you're feeling inspired) exactly what your brand promises. It will usually fall under three main categories... quality, service or price. But there are nuances. Ben & Jerry's image contains both a quality message and a social message... one of comittment to the community and environment.

Principal Two: Never violate Principal One.

Once you have firmly established your promise in the minds of consumers, make sure every move you make conforms to that promise. Coke was fine to come out with Diet Coke, Cherry Coke and a host of other flavor variations (brand extension) but they completely missed the mark when they introduced NEW Coke. People believed in Coke, identified with Coke and it was a part of their history. New Coke was seen as a betrayal of the brand itself, a vote of no confidence in their core product. "What's wrong with the original Coke?" was the immediate question that popped up in most minds. That's why is so important to know what it is, and why it is, that people buy from you and believe in you.

Know your promise and keep your promise. Pretty simple? Yet it will go a long ways toward making your company resonate with your customer on a deep and lasting level. And that's a promise.
