Tips, Tidbits
and Inspiration
Note from
Leslie: Great success never happens without first overcoming failure,
disappointment, and other obstacles. Here is a good article on failure
and how to keep it from getting in the way of your goals and dreams.
Work At Home
Opportunities - Ignore Failure
By Ken Shorey
Because failing at a
task makes us sad with feelings of unworthiness, many people choose not
to take any risk. These individuals live their lives in quiet
desperation because they have such high aspirations for their lives.
The problem is these individuals are paralyzed by fear, they can't live
or do what they really want because they are afraid to fail.
But if we don't dare to
dream and achieve, then nothing can be gained. Nothing happens. In
spite of all the pep talks and the seminars, the fear of failure can be
so strong and overwhelming that people become stagnant in a life that
they do not want.
Starting a home-based
business might seem easy to most people. But, for those who fear
ridicule from family and friends, trying to start a home-based business
is not an option. Some moments of failure follow us from the early
years of our lives to adulthood.
Failures come in many
colors and levels of intensity. There are some failures that are easy
to get over. We can make a brilliant argument for the reason we did not
jump in the lake with the other teenagers. We were the only that had
common sense at 8 years of age.
We take pride in
ourselves and our good sense. This type of failure allows us to explain
our fear away while feeling good about the tasks that we did not
accomplish.
But as we grow older,
we must approach the working world from a different angle. Making
excuses becomes our substitute for failure. We didn't apply for that
senior management position because "its not our bag”. These
excuses are not lost on co-workers. They know you didn't try because
you were afraid you would not get the position.
Some failures that are
viewed by others make us gag with embarrassment. This kind of failure
is persistent and damaging to our self-image. When our co-workers watch
us fall on our face during the high level presentation, there is a
physical anguish that accompanies this failure.
The worst feeling of
failure is when we do our best and still fall short of the goal. This
failure is pervasive and sinister. But what the situation should do is
make us try harder. We should never give up. Failure is not an option
in the life of a home business owner. We might start to feel desperate
and start planning how to make our exit from not only the room but this
whole "life thing"
In Napoleon Hills
famous and renowned work "Think & Grow Rich" there is a list of
" 'The 30 Major Causes of Failure'. The only one that applies to the
person reading this article is "Lack of ambition to Aim above the
Mediocrity - The book states "We offer no hope for the person who is so
indifferent as not to want to get ahead in life, and who is NOT willing
to pay the price.
The price of success is
the courage to ignore family and friend. The price is to try again and
go through the intelligent selection process and find a home based
business that will work for you. The price may be time. You may need
time to get over the most recent failure and time to get back up and
try again.
Don’t be
tempted to stop your search to find your Shangri-La. Do not leave in
the middle of the race for fear of failure. Whenever you feel
distressed or overburdened by "fear" just focus on how wonderful
success will feel. Close your eyes and envision, the car, the house,
the faces of friends and family when you "Make it". Your fear can bring
nothing but heartache. Your Success creates more success.

WAHS Reviews
This week instead of
review a specific program or resource, I have decided to review an
industry... Network Marketing.
No
entrepreneurial concept is more misunderstood or
demonized than Network Marketing. It conjures up frightening terms such
as
“pyramid”, “scam” and even
worse, “sales” thereby scaring many people away
from
a viable home business option.
Over the last few
years, network marketing's reputation has improved slightly. Gurus such
as David Back (The Finish Rich books), Donald Trump, and many others,
have started recommending network marketing or direct sales companies
to people who need to make some extra cash. I agree and in
fact, I have been saying that network marketing, when done right, is a
great way to make money since the launch of Work At Home Success in
1998. Network marketing offers what many other work-at-home options
don't:
1) Its affordable.
While some programs cost several hundred dollars, many cost less than
$100 to get started. Most companies run specials during the holidays
and summer that cut that price even further.
2) There's already a
product or service. You don't have to invent or create anything.
3) There's a system for
building a business. You don't have to figure out how to make money.
You simply follow the system.
4) There's residual
income. The reason many financial guru's like network marketing, aside
from those I've already listed, is that they know they key to financial
success is to make your
money work for you. But many people can't afford to invest
in real estate. They don't have the talent or tenacity to write a best
selling book or song. And they can't buy enough stock to live
off the dividends. The only other residual income option is network
marketing, which when done right, provides income, month after month,
based on work you did last month, last year, or three years ago.
But, network marketing
isn't for everyone. Network marketing doesn't work unless people:
1) Choose a reputable
company. (To
learn how to choose a good company, read Six Criteria to Choosing a Home Business
and Avoid Deception in Home Based Business
Opportunities).
2) Are willing to do
the work that needs to be done to be successful (this is where most
people fail).
3) Choose products they
can endorse. If
you don't love the product or service, its hard to get others to try
it. So don't choose a company based on money, choose it because you'd
use the product even if there was no money involved.
Of course the biggest
hurdles to get over is the multitude of misinformation about network
marketing. It is so completely misunderstood that many people make
decisions about it based on false information. This is a huge mistake
when you are putting your financial future on the line. Myths about
saturation, pyramids, and results prevent many people from at least
taking a deeper looking into the network marketing industry. (To learn
more about the truths and myths of network marketing, check out
"The Truth of Network Marketing".)
But I'm a big believer
in options and research. There are so many ways to earn an income from
home and dismissing one of those options based on false information
could be the difference between commuting to work or working at home.
So while network
marketing may not be for you, be sure you have done your reading and
research to make sure you aren't passing by the one thing that could
work for you. And
if I have peaked your interest, start by reading the articles
I have offered in this review to help you learn the basics of what to
look for and what to avoid.
I have long been
intrigued by network marketing. Although I earn a good income from
affiliate programs and my telecommuting work, I don't have a retirement
program and my IRA isn't growing fast enough to care for me in my old
age. So after 15 years of research and searching, I did finally choose
a program that was 1)
reputable, 2) I was willing to do (I didn't want to retail or do home
parties), and 3) I liked the products. In some ways it was hard, but in
others it has been great. I took December and January off, and I still
got paid. That's residual income!

Marketing Tips
Little Time Radio, Big
Time Opportunities
By Anne Marie Baugh
Every business owner
interested in Publicity wants to do the big syndicated radio shows.
Many overlook the smaller opportunities available in non-syndicated
radio shows. Now I'm not talking about radio shows in tiny little towns
of 5000 in which the talk radio host is also the DJ, the radio manager,
and quite possibly the mayor of the town. I'm discussing those viable
radio shows in most cities that cater to their own demographics. What
do these shows have to offer the businessman in terms of exposure?
Consider these:
Closer Relationship
With The Listeners: The fact is that if the audience is one hundred
thousand instead of five million, there is a good chance your talk show
host has a closer, more intimate relationship with his listeners. In
turn his listeners feel that the show host is part of their everyday
lives and takes his advice closer to heart. That means when he suggests
they take a look at your website they most likely will!
The Bigger Plug: While
five million listeners will hear about your website and business
opportunity on a syndicated show how many will actually visit? The turn
around in small shows is actually a bit higher due to the relationship
factor between host and audience. Confidence soars when the host is
local and with in reach of his audience. Additionally, because it's a
smaller, friendly, one on one show the host will most likely give you
more opportunities to plug your site and opportunity.
Opportunities To
Return: Smaller stations tend to be hungrier for content. Due to this
situation you will more than likely have opportunities to return to the
show every six months or so. This is providing that you do a bang up
job while on the air.
Little Numbers Add Up:
Smaller shows are a great way to get the kind of exposure and
experience you need to get introduced into the larger markets.
Publicity is a little akin to building a resume. You're more likely to
succeed if you start small and build from there.
Networking The
Relationship: Radio hosts are fun people. There is no way around that.
Very, very few radio hosts will greet you with anything but enthusiasm
and a great attitude. It's very hard not to want to be friends and
building these relationships can be very valuable for you in the long
run. Most radio hosts are just like the rest of us, on the way up. They
may change stations, go to a bigger market, and even someday become
syndicated. By building these relationships it becomes easier and
easier to take the next step with them. Additionally, most radio hosts
will share contacts, which can increase your exposure as well.
Small radio shows are
not small opportunities. They build on each other to create a very
large impact on your overall exposure. Take the time to build these
important relationships and the results will astound you.
