Note From Leslie
  • Here's a funny story from the home front. I will be traveling to California to go to Disneyland and visit family in April. Like many women, I felt a reunion was a good reason to lose some weight. I have had good success with South Beach, so I went back to phase one. For two weeks, I ate right and I increased my exercise, but the scale didn't budge. I was getting pretty discouraged. Then the other day my daughter asked if she could have a sip of my soda. "Its not diet is it?" she asked once she'd had a sip. "WHAT!!!". Well no wonder. I usually only have one soda a day, sometimes two. But that is a lot of calories and 39 grams of sugar if its not diet. Three times now I have bought a box of the regular caffeine-free cola instead of the diet because the boxes look so much a like. This time, I didn't notice until too late. Odd too because it does taste different. Well, I have remedied the situation and am convinced the weight will drop off now!

Tips, Tidbits and Inspiration

Note from Leslie: Resumes and cover letters are crucial in a job search. In a work-at-home job search, the resume and cover letter will make or break you. Here is an article with good tips on making your resume and cover letter stand out.

Let Your Resume Cover Letter Do The Talking

By Michael Murray

A resume cover letter should be informative and hold the interest of the reader. Normally, most job seekers follow a generalized pattern of writing resume cover letters. Prospective employers shuffle through innumerable resume cover letters daily and therefore, an enticing and differently presented resume cover letter catches their attention and generates interest in them to read and consider the attached resume.

Before starting with your resume cover letter, you need to research in to the concerned company. Understand the working and the need for hiring new personnel. Thereafter, present your resume cover letter about how you can make a difference to the company. You can also cite how your previous experience could be beneficial to solve the current problems of the company. However, make sure that you only talk about the benefits to the company and not about your benefits.

The language of your resume cover letter should be simple and conversational. Minimum usage of I, me, and mine provides a better get-up to your resume cover letter. Avoid any flowery language and do not use many formal words or phrases. This makes your resume cover letter seem very generic. Employers are wary about such generic letters. Maintain the necessary focus and proceed systematically to assert your point.

Allow your enthusiasm and positive energy flow through your resume cover letter. Employers want to hire energetic people. Present yourself in your individual style in your resume cover letter and assert on your suitability to the organization. Although it could prove to be a daunting task to include all such necessary details within your resume cover letter, it is essential to maintain and stick to just two or three paragraphs. Employers do not find long letters interesting to read through.

Do not repeat the information in your resume in your resume cover letter. Your cover letter should ideally only highlight special aspects of your resume. This immediately sparks an interest in the reader to look in to your resume and ascertain your suitability to the post.

Maintain explicitly throughout your letter. Again, include an effective follow-up plan in your resume cover letter. Accordingly, call up the particular person on the designated date to know the status of your application. Employers receive innumerable letters and may not be able to respond personally. Therefore, in your own interest, call up the company in question and inquire about your job application.

Do not indulge in mass mailing of your resumes. Instead, contact the particular company and inquire the name of the particular person you need to mail your resume. This ensures accountability and easy accessibility to approach the particular person to inquire about your application later.

WAHS Reviews
 Mom Masterminds

Nearly all success books will recommend that you get a mentor and/or be a part of a mastermind group. As a die-hard do-it-yourselfer, I have been slow to do either. However, back in October I came across Mom Masterminds for a second time. The first time, I was a bit full of myself...I'm successful online, why do I need to pay to join a group of women. I'm not sure what changed this time except that I was more aware of the women who were members and I respected them.

Since joining the group I have planned and conducted an online expo, queried and hired a book agent, and am now expanding into professional speaking. Even better, my affiliate income has more than doubled! So what does Mom Masterminds offer that helped with this? Glad you asked.  For starters, its a tremendous place to bounce off ideas and get feedback. Many members post the content of their sites and several others offer copy writing or other ideas to improve it. People ask questions about blogs, Google Adsense, how to deal with a unhappy (possibly unreasonable) customer, and more. The real advantage for me is to have another set of eyes and experience looking at my work and helping me make it better.

But you don't need to have a successful mom-business to get the benefits of the group. In fact, its probably the best resource for getting started. There are many print and audio resources to teach about websites, Internet marketing, and more. Plus, you can get help thinking of and fleshing out ideas. Many moms get together on a joint venture. Others ask for people to interview or submit articles in exchange for publicity.

The Mom Mastermind group is a must-join group for any mom who is serious (and I mean serious) about working at home. Membership includes:
  1. Step-by-Step Online Business Mentoring

  2. 24/7 Access to the Mom Masterminds™ Exclusive Online Community

  3. Monthly Audio Course with Online Follow up

  4. Regular (but not too frequent) "Kick in the Butt" Messages to Ensure You are On Track and Working Your Business

  5. Access to Special Reports, Worksheets & Printables

  6. Listing in the Mastermind Moms Directories

  7. Automatic Approval for Our Private Referral Program

I have really enjoyed meeting and working the women in this group. And I have gotten valuable feedback, tons of support, and much more.
Learn more about this tremendous group of moms!

Marketing Tips

Why Conducting A Customer Survey Could Double Your Profits!

By Peter Lawless

Customer Surveys are the most inexpensive way of generating profits, which any business could dream of. Companies like IBM used to pay their sales people, a bonus, based on the customer survey rating. But how could they really boost your profits? This article uncovers some of the secrets.

Existing customers are the life blood of every company. They have already bought from you, so they know the value of what you provide. Too often companies are not fully sure of the reasons as to why their customers have made purchases.

In order to successfully market to other similar customers, you should talk to your customers and ask them to tell you why they bought, what the purchase has enables them to do, and how they have put a value on it.

This exercise, properly done, not only helps you get testimonials that you can use in your marketing to other prospects, it also help you with two other key profit generating activities.

It reminds your customers of what you provide, and encourages them to buy from you again. Customers, who have bought before, are 5 times more likely to purchase again, than people who have not heard of you.

It also gives you the opportunity to ask for referrals. These could be other non-competing companies, or indeed customers or suppliers who they might have.

It is recommended that this questionnaire that follows is conducted either in person or on the phone. People do not respond well to giving this type of information, online, by email or even in written form.

Open the call by telling the customer who you are and checking if they have a couple of minutes. If not, find a time to call back, telling them that you are just conducting a short customer survey.

Assuming they are able to speak with you, ask the following;

Do you remember using our service and were you happy with it?
Can you remember, specifically why you used us in the end?
What did that enable you to do?
How would you put a value on it?

Repeat back to the customer, how they answered the last three questions.

Now ask them if they would mind you if you used that information as a testimonial – tell them you will email them a copy of the wording.

Since they were satisfied, ask them if they know anyone else who they believe would benefit from your services.

Thank them for their time, and finish by asking them if they would like to be on your emailing list, tell them you send out short articles and information bi-monthly.

This is incredibly powerful, obviously it will need to be tailored to your company, but it serves as a template that you can use. It shows them that you care. It also really helps you understand how customers actually use and put a value to your products and services.
