Note From
Leslie
With the
rising costs of gas and child care, it is no surprise that more and
more people are looking for ways to work from home. But while interest
in telecommuting is high, many people just don’t know how to
get started. Are you one of those people? If so, there is an upcoming
course that will be of great interest to you.
Telecommuting Boot Camp
The six-week Telecommuting Boot Camp is a course designed by my friend
Nell Taliercio, also known as the Telecommuting Answer Lady. Nell uses
what she has learned through five years of telecommuting to teach you
the fundamentals of entering the wonderful world of telecommuting.
Participants will learn step-by-step how to determine whether or not
telecommuting is right for them, find legitimate opportunities, and
prepare to apply and interview for telecommuting positions. They will
also learn how to propose telecommuting to a current manager.
By registering for this in-depth course, you’ll get more than
just a weekly lesson. You will receive one-on-one assistance from Nell
herself. You will have access to audio interviews pertaining to each
week’s topic. You will get numerous bonuses, including
checklists, sample resumes and cover letters, a list of job lead
websites and the keywords to use when searching, and much more.
Space Is Limited
This comprehensive telecommuting course is only being offered to 30
people. Registration is now open, and I can tell you from experience
that an opportunity like this doesn’t come along often. If
you are ready to learn from one of the best and jumpstart your
telecommuting career, visit the link below to sign up today! Click

Tips,
Tidbits
and Inspiration
The Two Hour Work Day by Leslie Truex
Summers
can be challenging at my house. My children are 12 and 9 years old, but
they still need time and attention. While they can keep themselves busy
for a few hours, eventually the bickering, arguing and calling "MOM!"
starts.
This summer I have vowed it will be different and have modified my
schedule to work only two hours a day with an additional hour for
finishing the Pajama Mama book. In the three days I have been with this
schedule, it has worked pretty well. I have actually been more
productive, getting more things done in those two hours than I have
been working 4-6 hours a day.
The key has been to assign dates to all the tasks on my to-do list. In
the past, my to-do list was one long list that included everything I
needed to get done eventually. The problem with this system is that
many projects simply kept getting put off. For example, the update to
all pages of WAHS still in the old format has been waiting to be done
for over 6 months! Under my old time management system, I found that
while I seemed to be busy (checking email and affiliate stats several
times a day), I completed only 1 or 2 tasks from the list. I just
wasn't efficient or productive.
On Monday I went through my to-do list and assigned everything on it a
date to be completed. Each day I have 4 or so tasks
that need to get done depending on the size of task. For example, today
I need to finish the WAHS Newsletter, finish making Pajama
Mama merchandise over at Cafepress, begin a draft of an article, and
update telecommuting stats on my websites.
Another thing I have done is to outsource some of the work.
Instead of assigning the 10 pages of website updates to a completion
date and doing it myself, I hired someone to do it for me.
This saves me from "busy work" and allows me to focus on the
activities that make money. If this turns out well, I'll be looking to
outsource much more!
What has been nice is that I have been able to be more productive
in in less time. This has allowed me to take my children on a
picnic at the river, take them to see Shrek the Third and do some
shopping, and avoid the stress that comes with trying to work and keep
them busy at the same time.
I highly recommend the two-hour workday! If you are an entrepreneur or
telecommuter, you can work on cutting down your workday with simple
project management techniques and outsourcing as well.
1) Project management: I use Agendus for Windows and Palm to
organize my day. I can look at my day, week or month and see all that I
need to do. My to-dos are kept in a master list, but they also show up
on the date to which the project has been scheduled to be done.
Breaking down big projects into its individual tasks, and assigning
those tasks a completion date moves projects froward in a timely
manner.
2) Delegate help: I have been slow to hire or delegate help, but am
beginning to see the merits. If my time is worth $50 or more an hour,
then I should focus on things that bring me that $50 an hour. Its worth
paying someone $10 an hour to do things that need to be done, but don't
directly make me any money. The key is to hire a professional virtual
assistant who has the skills for the project and good references.
3) Manage interruptions: Check email only two times a day...three if
you must. Many phone services now bundle caller-ID in affordable phone
packages so you can answer the phone only in emergencies and let
everyone else leave a message. Keep children busy with activities and
negotiate fun time. My kids know that if I can work uninterrupted for a
couple of hours, they can have my total focus the rest of the day.
If you aren't an entrepreneur or telecommuter, you can still strive for
the two-hour work day. In fact, many successful home ventures were
started and built on two-hours a day while still holding a job. The
best two-hour opportunities are those that build passive or residual
income. Examples of this inlcude online businesses such as content
websites with affiliate links, sales of info or other digital products,
or an MLM opportunity that can be done online. What you want is a
work-at-home opportunity that pays you not on your time, but on your
efforts. While offering a service such as virtual assistance or
transcription is a great way to make money, your income is
directly related to how many hours you put in. You can't do two-hours
of transcription a day and hope to make a good income. So look for
opportunities that aren't tied to a wage or time and instead allow for
passive or residual income.
As you get started, it can take time to make the income you desire and
you may need to put more than two-hours a day into the work. But if you
develop systems, focus on the activities that make money, and are
diligent, you can have a two-hour workday too.

Marketing Tips
Information Sells: How To
Use Content To Sell More Products
By Alice Seba
Unlike offline, when
you run a business on the web, words often speak louder than actions.
What your potential customers read is what will ultimately determine if
those people make the decision to buy from you.
When you hear the
phrase, “content is king,” don’t make the
mistake of creating content for content’s sake. Content is
great and the extra traffic it can bring is a bonus. You just need to
make sure you’re making the most of it. Here’s some
tips for making the most of your content.
Show them what to do
and what tools they need to get the job done.
Readers love
“How to” articles and you can create some great
content around showing people how to do certain things. As you create
these types of articles, give enough detail so they know what they
should do and also recommend the tools that will help them get the job
done.
Add your product
promotions wisely
Don’t end
your article with “Buy Here” or “Visit
xyz.com” People have a tendency to scan an article before
reading and if they see wording that looks like you are selling
something right off the bat, they either ignore it or will immediately
move on. So, don’t give them instructions to buy, instead use
phrases like "Further Recommended Reading”,
“Further Recommended Study" or “Learn
More”.
We find keeping it
highly informative sounding inspires plenty of click-throughs and
sales. If you sound like a used car salesman, they may not believe a
word you say. Inspire confidence in your knowledge and your
recommendations
Include links to your
products within your articles.
Some article
directories don't allow promotions within an article, but subtle
promotions in the middle of an article are often the most powerful, so
make sure to sell in the articles you publish on your site and when
submitting to other publishers that do allow links in the body of your
article.
Provide incentive to
other to publish your articles.
If you’re
distributing your articles for publication, ALWAYS allow people to
substitute your links with their affiliate links in your article. It's
an extra incentive for them to publish your article over someone
else’s.
Whatever you do, ensure
every piece of content you create and publish serves a purpose. Whether
it’s to get people to sign up for a mailing list, recommend a
product through an affiliate link or sell more of your own product
– don’t be shy about letting your content do that
for you.
