Note From Leslie

Was I on Rachael Ray?
I was contacted by email by someone who said she found me (or my site) from the Rachael Ray show. I know I wasn't on the show personally, so I suspect that WAHS was mentioned or listed on the show...maybe in the one about Mompreneurs. There is no mention on her website so I'm asking for your help. If are a Rachael Ray fan and know if I or WAHS was mentioned, please contact me and let me know which show so I can order it.

Today is my 16 year wedding anniversary. Wow does time fly when you're having fun! I do want to give a shout out to my husband who has always supported me and my work-at-home endeavors...even the crazy ones that failed!

Quick note on ads... I just want to remind readers that Work-At-Home Success  does accept advertising. Every attempt is made to check ads to make sure they offer legitimate opportunities. I have refunded or refused ads in the past that were found to be suspect. The site also feeds ads from Google. I do try to screen ads run through this service and block the scams. However, new ads are added all the time and rotate so different ads are running all the time. If you find an ad that is questionable, please email me so I can remove it ASAP. Also, while WAHS runs ads, that doesn't mean it endorses the product or service offered. To learn more about WAHS's policies, visit WAHS Disclaimer Statement or see special notes below.

Tips, Tidbits and Inspiration

WAHS Investigates: Bookwise and Data Entry Workers

This week I have reviews of the Bookwise home business opportunity and a data entry job sent to me for review by a subscriber. Below I offer my impressions of each program. Please note that these reviews are offered as information and are my views and impressions based on what I know as well as my own experience in working at home. When it comes to your participation in any program, its up to you to do your research and evaluate an opportunity based on your needs and goals.

Review #1 Bookwise

I'm an avid reader and spend a fortune each month in books on everything from business and marketing to writing as well as genre fiction. I'm a Barnes and Noble member and many of the staff there know me by name. I'm also a frequent visitor to Amazon.  So when I came across a book club that not only saves members 30-40% on books, but offered an income opportunity, I knew I had to check it out.

The income option at Bookwise is a home business opportunity, not a job or affiliate program.
When checking out work-at-home opportunities, I have a list I go through to see if the program meets what I look for:

1) Products/services that I use or am passionate about: While many people focus on programs that make money fast, the most successful business people focus on products they can get excited about. In this case, I love books. Not a week goes by that I don't buy a book.

2) Company history: This is one area in which I broke my own rule. I tend to avoid companies that are young (under 3-5 years), but I made an exception in this case because it has impressive leadership that has their own credibility to maintain. I do like that the company donates $1 from each month membership to promote books and literacy. Working with the Deyhle Foundation, Bookwise has already donated over 17,000 books.

3) Leadership: Bookwise is the brainchild of author Richard Paul Evans most famous for his book The Christmas Box and more recently The Five Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me. He has collaborated with Robert G. Allen who is famous for his books No Money Down and Multiple Streams of Income. These guys make their living off their reputation and have a history of successful money making strategies.

4) Value: We all know that we can get discount books at a variety of places online. To be successful a business needs to compete. Bookwise members/associates get a hardback best seller or classic book of their choice each month. But the real value (in my opinion) is the other perks of membership. Each month members/associates also get:
  • an ebook,
  • an audiobook (this month its Stephan Covey's 7 Habits of Successful People),
  • an author interview,
  • several phone/webcast/recorded/podcast seminars on wealth building tips, tax tips and even author tips (this is one of my favorite trainings) done by Richard Paul Evans and Robert Allen,
  • a speed reading lesson (I haven't actually tried that one yet)
  • and a newsletter.
Of course, one would need to access and use all the perks to make the Bookwise features worth the $35 (plus tax and shipping) each month.

5) Achievable Income: I can only comment on the compensation plan at this point. The plan has some good points including initial fast start bonuses and matching bonuses. The percentages paid on volume seem a bit low and am waiting to see the results. Even so, the savings on books plus the other features still make this program appealing to an avid reader and book buyer like me. Associates can get paid on retails sales from their site, enrolling preferred customers ($15 a year...cheaper than Barnes and Noble) and enrolling members/associates. This income is based on book sales volume.

6) Tools and support: Todd at Bookwise customer service has been really helpful. I have called several times and every time he answers all my questions and makes sure I have what I need. The program itself offers a Bookwise Website to retail books and market memberships and income opportunity. This is free for 6 months and then $9.95 a month after that. This also includes a Bookwise back office with the free perks such as ebooks, marketing tips, ezine, business tracking and more. There is a second marketing website available (I believe its free now) called Winning in the Margins
(passkey: tellmemore) that offers a presentation done by Richard Paul Evans. New members/associates receive a start-up kit that includes 5 Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me book, business information, media kit, policies, DVD and a few extra goodies.  I would like more online marketing tools as there are no Internet banners and ads available at this time, although the media kit does offer a cd that has some marketing tools on it.

7) Affordable to start AND run: (note: jobs should never cost money. The only time its okay to invest in working at home is buy starting a home business whether its from scratch or a business op.) I run across many interesting home business programs, but most just cost too much start or run. Few people have $500 to start and $75 a month to invest when just getting started. The Bookwise start up is $39.95 (plus tax and shipping ... about $48). Members and associates participate in the monthly member program for $35 (plus shipping and handling) that includes a hardback book of your choice and all the other freebies and perks. The website with back office is free for 6 months and then $9.95 a month after that. Some people may not like the monthly autoship requirement (required by law to earn a check). But for people who buy at least $25 in books a month and would find value in the other perks such as the free ebooks, audio books, and financial guru seminars, the cost is fair.

Overall impression: Its still too early for me to comment on the income aspect of the program, but so far I do like the Bookwise program and would recommend it to anyone who loves books particularly bestsellers and classics. Anyone who wants to earn an income or be a writer would also benefit from the trainings offered in the WealthWise, TaxWise and AuthorWise programs.  Nevertheless, this program is not for everyone. Like any other income opportunity, it takes true commitment to the business, a passion for the product, and a willingness to do what it takes. People who don't know or enjoy books, don't usually take advantage of teleconference or recorded audio trainings or read ebooks may not experience the full value of the program.

Review #2 Data Entry Workers

This program promotes itself as a "job" for people who want to work at home.  This particular program is in the U.K., but similar jobs are posted all over the world.

This program says:

These Home Based Data Entry Positions should earn £150.00 - £300.00 per week. We are seeking only honest, self-motivated people with a desire to work in the home typing and data entry field, from the comfort of their own homes. The preferred applicants should be at least 18 years old with Internet access. No experience is needed.

Then it says:

You will be paid £20 - £25 for each application you process. For example; if you process 30 applications in a week you will make £600.00 - £750.00 weekly. The amount of money that you earn is entirely up to you, it depends on the amount of time and effort you choose to put in. The average person makes £200 - £500 per week.

Sounds good. But then it says:

There is a "One Time Non-Refundable Fee" of £20.00. The cost will cover the training materials sent to you. Once you process your very first order you will have made back this fee "GUARANTEED"! We have to cover our expenses in recruiting individuals, processing their applications and training you.

Finally,
this website is hosted on a free hosting server and uses a Hotmail address for correspondence.

Overall Impression: Warning bells should be going off in your head right now! First of all, legitimate employers never charge to hire you. They don't charge for training or supplies. Second, if they can't afford to pay for website hosting, domain and email, they can't afford to pay you.

In the end, I believe this site's training program is how to find affiliate products and use Google Adwords to promote them. This is a viable way to make money, however, it done incorrectly it can cost you a fortune. I hate programs like this because even if the information they are "selling" you is good, they are selling it in a deceptive way. I recommend staying far away from this and other similar programs.

Remember, that work-at-home jobs are like any other jobs. Employers are looking for skilled and experienced people to do real work. You will never simply sign up for a job.

Marketing Tips
This article focuses on health products, but the message relates to any product or service you offer!

Why Can't I Get People To See The Value Of My Products?

By Kim Klaver

This is a very pesky problem.

"Most people just tell me it's too expensive." said Lulu.

Well here's the good news.

Your products, if they're extra well formulated, are YES TOO EXPENSIVE for most people.

The higher grade and more special your products or services are, the fewer people they will be right for.

"Niche products are by definition not for everyone." (From the best-selling book, The Long Tail), by Chris Anderson.

Do you think your NM company offers pretty special products? E.g. products for people who really care about their health and what they put into their bodies.

How many people is that?

Therefore, what you market is for a special people. And those people comprise a niche - "a distinct segment of a market."

"Niche products are meant to appeal strongly to a narrow set of tastes..." writes Anderson.

Read: if you're still offering your special products or services to everyone, you're talking to the wrong audience. They won't see the value of your products if they don't have those values to begin with.

Here are some niche members:

1. Jeanette, who easily spends more than the average person for alternative products because it matters to her. She discovered products that helped her get over the sniffles and helped her live her value of saving the earth at the same time.

2. CJ, a young man who has helped parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, who want to try an alternative to drugs.

3. Lois, who found that her alternative products helped her "allergies and headaches go away, and the dogs stopped scratching..."

Lois, CJ, and Jeanette are all part of the market niche that prefers and will pay more for alternatives to the traditional store-bought stuff.

(To see almost 300 more folks like this go to Network Market Central.)

These folks, like you, are seeking people who are in THEIR corner of the market.

That's a small subset of the big marketplace - just like Gucci's is a small part of a much bigger market. People who shop for their clothes at Gucci's pay more, don't they?

Because they share the values of high end designer wear - and they pay the price to get it. They might go to Wal-Mart for something they care less about.

It's about shared values. So if you believe your company has very special products with big value, ask for people who share your values instead of just anyone, and you're less likely to hear "It's too expensive.
