Work At Home Success Jobs and News July 20, 2007

Welcome to WAHS Jobs and News where each week you'll find work-at-home job announcements, articles to inspire and inform, scam alerts, telecommuting trends and much more!

Contents of this week's newsletter:

Notes From Leslie

I want to apologize to everyone who attended last night's teleconference call on "How To Get Your Boss to Say 'Yes' To Telecommuting'.  I can't imagine how frustrated you must have been to make time for a call, and not have the speaker show up. It wasn't for a lack of trying. For 20 minutes I hit the redial to get into my own call, but all I got was "circuits are busy'. Hopefully you did get my emails and I will be rescheduling the call once I hear back from the conference call service about why the problem occured.

The Pajama Mama Squidoo...

As long as I have been working online, you’d think I’d be quicker to catch on to new trends. Alas, I’m always a little slow due in part to the fact that new trends always take time to create and maintain. Ten years ago I just needed a few keywords and my website was indexed in Yahoo (there was no Google then). Today I need SEO, free reprint articles, link popularity reports, blogs, social networking, and now Squidoo.

I like the idea of Squidoo, which I’m told is the brainchild of Permission Marketing Guru Seth Godin. Lenses (pages made in Squidoo) are based on topics more than touting a single person. People can Squidoo about their favorite books, resources, and more.

I have made a Squidoo Lens called Telecommuting Success Secrets where I reveal 6 secrets you need to know to find and get a job. Plus you’ll find some great resources. More will be added as learn more about all I can do at Squidoo.

How to Use WAHS Jobs and News:
On occasion I get an email from someone who can't find the jobs posted in this newsletter, so I thought I'd give a quick overview on how to use the ezine.  In the section above this one, you'll find the contents of this week's ezine. Each feature (Notes From Leslie, Tidbits, Jobs, etc) are separated by a color divider which the section contents indicated in the divider. For example, if you scroll down you'll find a blue divider that says, "Tips, Tidbits and Inspiration". Below that section you'll find a green divider that says "Work At Home Jobs".

I also want to point out that the only jobs (employment) listed in this ezine are listed in the Job section.  Any other work-at-home opportunities you come across will be affiliate programs, home businesses or work-at-home resources. So if you are hear solely for the jobs, you'll want to stick to the Work-At-Home Job feature.

Quick note on ads... I just want to remind readers that Work-At-Home Success  does accept advertising. Every attempt is made to check ads to make sure they offer legitimate opportunities. I have refunded or refused ads in the past that were found to be suspect. The site also feeds ads from Google. I do try to screen ads run through this service and block the scams. However, new ads are added all the time and rotate so different ads are running all the time. If you find an ad that is questionable, please email me so I can remove it ASAP. Also, while WAHS runs ads, that doesn't mean it endorses the product or service offered. To learn more about WAHS's policies, visit WAHS Disclaimer Statement or see special notes below.

Tips, Tidbits and Inspiration

Sorting Through the Hype of Many Work at Home Ads by Audrey Okaneko

Over the last 10 years the amount of people who want to work at home has climbed tremendously. Each year the Direct Sales Association makes public its statistics and every year the amount of people involved in direct sales goes up.

These figures are for direct sales only and do not include all of those who sell on ebay, sell through wholesalers, offer a service or telecommute.

The fact is folks would rather work at home if there is a way to earn the same amount a part time job would pay them.

So what are the things to watch for when reading the many ads out there?

1. Any ad that tells you that you don’t have to work is not telling you the truth. Sometimes I’ve seen these ads say “earn while you sleep”. Other times I’ve seen these ads say “we’ll do all the work for you”. If you just step back and recognize that we have a terrible poverty problem here in the U.S., you’ll realize that if folks truly could make money doing nothing and with someone else doing all the work, there would be no more poverty or unemployment.

2. A home business with no sales. I see these types of ads daily. A business sells either a product or a service. When you think of all of the businesses in YOUR town, you’ll see that each one sells either a product or a service. A home business is the same. In order to make money you’ll need to either sell a product or a service.

3. Look at the ad itself. Are the words spelled correctly? Does the ad writer use way too many question marks and exclamation marks? One is plenty. Six or seven is a bit excessive. Does the ad writer use the dollar sign instead of the letter “S”? For example “Join my bu$$ine$$” I always chuckle when I see the dollar sign substituted for a letter. Is the ad written in all capital letters?

4. What is the website in the ad? Is it a free website, or does the ad writer have their own domain? I am always very leery of those who use free websites for business. I’ve had a geocities website for many years that I use to play with. My business site has always had its own domain. Today, a domain can be purchased for under $10 and web hosting can be found for well under $10 per month. So, for under $150 a year, a domain can be bought and hosted. Why is this person claiming you can earn millions using a free site?

5. Who wrote the ad? Does the person who wrote the ad let you know how to reach them? Is there a real person’s name? Does the person have a free email address or a paid email address? Remember, this ad spoke of earning millions. Certainly the ad write can afford their own email address.

6. Finally, where does the website they provided lead you? Is there information on a company? Is there information on products or services being offered? What is on the website when you do click?

By following the above tips, you should be able to sort through the hype and toss out those “too good to be true” offers.

Marketing Tips

Forum Discussions and Getting Traffic for Your Business by Lisa Roberts

Participating in discussion forums can mean profit for your business. How so? Any business with a website aims for traffic. The more people visit your business website the more chances you have of making more sales and acquiring new customers. Granted, not everyone who visits your website will make a purchase. But it’s not just about making a sale. Name recognition is just as important for a business.

The more people are introduced to your business, the better. That is what building a good business reputation is all about. People may not buy your products or hire your services at the moment. But sooner or later when they need the products or services that your business offers, they will more likely patronize the name they already know. Hence, by building a relationship to as many people as people, you are also establishing a solid foundation for your business.

As we have mentioned on the start of this article, discussion forums or message boards provide a venue where people can exchange ideas, views and make recommendations. If you’re in a business, you can take join message boards that discuss topics that may be relevant to your business. You may be able to provide some advice or suggestions that people in the forum can find valuable and useful.

Here are some tips on how to get the best out of forum discussions:

Leave links. Message boards allow you to leave links to your website. This presents an enormous opportunity to advertise your business for free. By posting relevant messages for the forum, people will be interested to know more about you. Thus, they will click on your links from the message board and discover that your company can provide the products or services that they may need.

Build friendships. Some message boards allow participants to upload a picture beside their posts. Providing your personal photo adds to your credibility and presents a friendlier impression. This allows a more personal interaction between you and other participants in the forum. In time, the friendships you formed from these discussion groups can only help in building your customer base..

Participate regularly. If you can participate with the group discussion on a daily basis, the better it is that people will recognize you. A discussion forum is a free and effective internet marketing strategy that requires some time and effort from you. You don’t have to spend your whole day in the forum. Sometimes, a few minutes is all it takes to read a post and respond to it appropriately.

When participating in a group discussion, don’t just leave links to your website. Instead, give your opinion, provide some suggestions, offer help especially if you have some expertise on the subject being discussed. Thus, it is a good idea to find forums that discuss topics related to the nature of your business or topics that you’re genuinely interested about. Your interest in the topic can be perceived through your messages. If the group senses that you’re not really sincere about your participation and that you’re just doing it for the purpose of getting back links, chances are they won’t even bother to check out your links.

Don’t forget to use relevant keywords on your posts. Keywords are valuable tools in increasing traffic for your website. However, make sure that you use your keywords sensibly and that they have a relevancy on the messages you post.

Be polite. When people do not share your views, do not respond with an attack of harsh words. Learn to respect other people’s opinion. You can post your own contrasting opinion in a clear, simple and polite way. Don’t forget to use courtesy on your all posts. Always, remember that you are not in the forum to start an argument. Be professional.
