News From Leslie:

Dealing with hassles is part of life. It is also a part of working from home. This week I was contacted by someone who said I was infringing on his trademark. While I’m no trademark expert, I know enough to know that he was wrong. I wasn’t using his trademark (his name) to represent anything but him. Having a trademark doesn’t mean no one can say your name otherwise how would people be able to share their favorite drink (Starbucks and Pepsi Max) or sneaker (Nike) or amusement part (Disney), because nearly all are trademarked. A trademark only protects someone from using a name to represent something else. I can’t make up a new drink and call it Coke. I could have argued with the guy, but doing so would be more of a hassle that it was worth. I didn’t need to use his name to make the point of the article, so it was easier to remove it than deal with it. That’s the challenge of working at home; knowing when you have to deal with a hassle or if it’s just easier to let it go. Sure it would have been nice to push the point, but that creates ill will (which can hurt a business) and takes time (and maybe money) away from other stuff, like finding you jobs or playing with the kids. The ability to prioritize and learn what’s really important will be key in your success as well.

I have some in-person and teleseminar events coming up:
