Ask Leslie

Hi Leslie, What is SEO and how do I do it? – Mark

Hi Mark,

SEO stands for search engine optimization and it refers to things you can do to your blog and website to make it easier for search engines to find and rank. It starts with knowing the keywords that people use to find your website. Next, you want to put title, keyword and descriptions into the code of every page of your blog or website. If you use WordPress, you can use a plug in (I use Greg’s High Performance SEO), which allows you to put in search engine-friendly titles, keywords and descriptions. If you build your own web pages, you need to input this yourself. Here is a tutorial on meta tags for SEO. Along with the code on your pages, search engines scan the content to make sure the code and content cover the same material. Further, search engines check to see who you’re linking to and who links to you (link popularity). It’s not just the number of people linking to you, but the quality of those links as well. That’s why many online marketers distribute articles and guest blog on other sites. It creates more links back to their sites. Here’s an article I wrote with basic information about SEO.

WAHS Hall of Shame – Scam Alert

This isn’t a work-at-home scam, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Apparently scammers are contacting people, reporting they’ve been in a car accident or are in jail and need help. The victims are asked to wire money. I’m not sure how many people are falling for this scam. If a stranger called and asked for money, I’d be suspicious. On the other hand, there are some very nice people in the world who’d probably not think twice about helping a stranger.
