Ask Leslie

Hi Leslie, I’m really worried about giving my information so I can work at home. Is there a way to make money at home without sharing personal information. – Howard

Hi Howard,
You’re right to be concerned about giving away your personal information. That is why it’s so important to research jobs and business ops before submitting information that could be compromising. However, businesses are requires to submit tax information about you to the IRS, so at some point you do need to provide personal information. Just like a traditional employer would need your social security, so does a home-based employer. Home business opportunities are the same, except they send you a 1099 instead of a W-2. The best way to protect your info would be start a home business, but even then you’d need a payment processor that might need personal information depending on what you use. Again the best way to stay safe, is to hold on to personal information until you’ve done your research. If you decide the job or business is good and you want to pursue it, then you can release information needed for you to work.

Do you have a question for Ask Leslie? You can send it here.
