While you never ant to pay a company to hire you, it is okay to invest in a service that can help you find a job. The services below are the ones I use.

Hi Ed,
NO! That’s not normal and it’s a gimmick scammers use to deceive you. Legitimate employers NEVER ask for money for any reason. Any job that asks for money to make sure you’re serious or to add you to it’s system is not a job. The only thing that it’s okay for you to pay for during the job process is a criminal background check.

Here’s an article about an astute man who discovered his new mystery shop job was actually fake check scam. Mystery shopping itself isn’t a scam, but many fake check scammers will call their positions “mystery shopping” (among other things including customer service or payment processing). Remember, legitimate companies don’t need you to use your personal bank account to help it do business.
