Looks like I need to update my post on 6 Ways to Make Money with Amazon, to add a seventh option, Amazon Flex.
What is Amazon Flex?
Amazon Flex is Amazon’s new job offering to people who’d like to make money delivering packages, groceries and meals in their local area using their own car. There are essentially 3 delivery programs:
Amazon Delivery: Working 3 to 6 hours, you pick up packages and deliver in your driving area.
Prime Now and Amazon Fresh: You pick up groceries or other goods from the Amazon warehouse or at local businesses, and deliver within two hours. This service usually results in tips, of which you get to keep 100%.
Amazon Restaurants: Deliver meals from restaurants and keep 100% of the tips received.
Amazon Flex lets you set your own schedule, so you can work around family, a regular job, school or whatever else you’ve got going on in your life.
What is needed to be an Amazon Flex Driver?
First, you need a car, but you don’t need to own a car or use your own car. As long as there is insurance, permits and other legal requirements are met, you can use someone else’s car or rent one. For Amazon deliveries, you can have any size or type of car. For Amazon Prime, you should have a 4-door sedan, van, SUV, or truck with covered bed (no small cars or trucks with open beds). In some cities, you can use a bicycle.
Next, you’ll need to download the Amazon Flex App from which you’ll receive your work assignements. For Android, you need a 6 or higher, 2GB of ram or higher, a camera with flash, GPS, and sim card. For iPhone you need a 5 or higher and iOS 9.3.5 or higher.
Finally, you’ll need to pass a background check that takes 2 to 5 business days.
How much can be earned as an Amazon Flex Driver?
The base pay is $18 to $25 per hour, and some deliveries are eligible for tips. Amazon indicates you can earn more by using a larger vehicle (to deliver more), and delivering during peak hours.
When and how are Amazon Flex Drivers Paid?
Amazon pays for regular deliveries every Tuesday and Friday through direct deposit into your bank. Prime deliveries are paid once tips are finalized (1 to 2 days after delivery). The phone app will track your deliveries and payment into.
Amazon doesn’t reimburse for gas and other car expenses; however, as an independent contractor, those car expenses may be deductible on your taxes.
What areas is Amazon hiring drivers for?
Delivery opportunities are limited to the following cities; however, you can get on a list to be notified when there are opportunities in your area. Right now, you can become an Amazon Flex driver in the following cities (check the site, as this information can change):
- Charlotte, Chicago,
- Kansas City
