Network Marketing: How to Marry Cold Calling and Customer Service

Cold Calling and Customer Service, not exactly my favorite work at home activities.  I now understand why these to dreadful tasks are necessary for business growth, and I also discovered how they helped develop my personal growth along the way.  I’ve learned how to marry cold calling and customer service into a compatible relationship in which to grow my business and also develop new business partners and supporters.

Here’s a little tidbit of info about me…I’m an introvert until I get to know someone, the problem with this is the fact that I rarely get “out of my comfort zone” because I’m an introvert. It’s a catch 22 sort of issue. That was, until one day in 2010, when I was determined to change. It started with me acknowledging that I wanted to grow my business and knew I needed someone to help. But really, it started with my decision to define my comfort zone and remove those hindrances. I went as far as drawing a box and labeling it “comfort zone” and then starting a list of everything I feared! My list included:

  • Public Speaking
  • Cold Calling
  • Networking Events

After all, something had to give and that something happened to be the person looking back at me everyday in the mirror. I knew that I could not expect others to “find” me, it was my responsibility to “find” them! So, that day was the day I started pushing my comfort zone aside and stepping out of that invisible box that held me prisoner for far too long.

How’d You Do That?

Thanks  for asking!  I became a volunteer Donations Director with a community action agency and my mission was to bring in donations of both money and nonperishable items for their giving closet. So, that’s what I did and boy  did I do it!! I brought in the largest, single monetary donation in over 30 years simply by:

  1. Moving out of my comfort zone.
  2. Speaking with real life people!
  3. Build a support system.

Was it easy? NO! 

Did I sweat, doubt yourself or want to run the other way? YES! 

So What Happened Next?!

Glad you asked! I learned that by focusing on the mission {my “WHY”}and the people I was helping, only then was I able to see past my …..gulp!….fear! Only after I made the decision that I was not going to be held back from moving forward in my life, was I able move up in both my personal life and professional life.

That’s it. That’s the secret to marrying Cold Calling and Customer Service…by removing yourself {your emotions} and focusing on the other person {your customer}, building a team of professionals, family members and friends who will root you on every step of the way.

I can’t take all of the credit for this transformation within myself simply because it wasn’t something I did alone; in fact it took my faith, my wonderful family and friends who calmed my fears,  kept me focused on the mission, assisted me with fine-tuning my speech and introduced me to a wonderful network of professionals.
