If you haven’t noticed, I’ve broken one of the blogging commandments… Thou Must Blog At Least Three Times a Week. There are many reasons I haven’t blogged here at Mommy Blogging Success in a while, and one is the theme.
There are many great free and paid themes you can use for your blog, but some require more work than others to use. I’ve tried and tested many different themes. Some were really cool. But some required too much work even after the options and setting were set.
One thing that I’ve learned about blogging…for me… is that I want to be able to write my post, add a picture and hit “Publish”. I don’t want to have resize pictures or go to another part of the dashboard to add the featured picture, which is what I was having to do with the old Mommy Blogging Success theme. I have too many blogs to fuss with more than adding the post and picture.
Recently I’ve been converting most my blogs to the basic WordPress Twenty-10 theme. It may not be as fancy as some, but it is highly customizable so I can tweak it the way I want. There are tons of plugins that can easily add great features without having to mess with theme options.
Admittedly, some of the tweaking I do to the themes requires that I edit the code, which I know many people don’t feel comfortable doing. But the point I want to make is that if you find yourself struggling or irritated at your theme to the point that you aren’t blogging, change it. With one click you can have a different look and features that may be easier to use.
