Please note that the listings below are NOT jobs (jobs are posted above). These are services that provide work-at-home job announcements. Some are free and some aren’t. While you never ant to pay a company to hire you, it is okay to invest in a service that can help you find a job. The services below are the ones I use.

Hi Alice,
I feel your best bet for your first client in a service business is to use your network of friends, family and work colleagues. This is probably the fastest way to get the first client. You can also check out job boards and freelance sites. Because these sources often pay less than you probably want to charge, go with time limited or temporary virtual assistant projects. This option gives you experience and hopefully positive references. Develop a marketing plan by defining your ideal client, where he/she can be found, and develop marketing tactics to place in front of them. Finally, develop a referral program. Most service-based business owners I talk to eventually get most of their business through referrals.
