News From Leslie:

I’m speaking at the Virginia Festival of the Book this Saturday, March 23 at 10 am on making writing pay. My specialty is making money writing online by freelancing writing, blogging and epublishing. I realized that digital writing was probably a good niche market during this changing time in publishing, so I’ve started a new blog called Digital Writer Success. The site provides free information and resources on how to make money writing online. If that sounds interesting to you, I hope you’ll stop by to check it out.

Have you taken a tour of WAHS? If you’re having trouble finding what you’re looking for at Work-At-Home Success, watch this short video that explains how the site is organized and how you find the info you need.

Ask Leslie

Hi Leslie, I’m finishing up a medical transcription course and want to work at home. But all the MT jobs I see want years of experience. Are there any places that hire new MTs? – Chris

Hi Chris,
On occasion I see entry-level MT jobs, but it’s very, very rare. Nearly all the MT jobs I find want 2 to 5 years experience. However, you might still be able to work at home. Contact doctors’ offices, clinics and hospitals in your area about MT jobs and whether you can to transcription from home. Some might be willing to take you on as a contractor. Others might have a work-at-home program after 6 months on site. This would allow you some flexibility, as well as the ability to get experience.

WAHS Hall of Shame – Scam Alert

It turns out that you can’t completely trust the Better Business Bureau’s ratings of businesses. I have discovered that that BBB sometimes rates companies with out ever checking them out and gives a rating based on assumptions. At a result, you might find a company with a bad rating even though there are no complaints. This puts into question the accuracy of ALL the Bureau’s ratings. While not a scam per se, it is deceptive to you the consumer and harmful to good businesses.
