This week’s WorkAt-Home Success story comes from Jazmine Donerson of Traveling Vineyard
Prior to joining Traveling Vineyard, Jazmine worked with the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates Breast Care Center, where she coordinated surgery and both long- and short-term care for patients facing breast cancer. In addition to being a wine guide Jazmine is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration online at Southern New Hampshire University.
1) How did you get started working from home?
I needed to find a job that I would enjoy and would allow me to make some income while still providing me with the flexibility to work on my degree and be a Mom to a preschool age son. Traveling Vineyard did that for me.
2) How did you choose the work-at-home career you do?
During my search for a work-at-home career, it was important to me that I find a job where I could do something I enjoyed, long-term. I didn’t want to be stuck selling or marketing something that I was not fully and completely passionate about, and I am passionate about a glass of wine!
3) How did you get started (basic initial steps)?
I spent several weeks researching this new business opportunity. I wanted to know everything about it, good and bad. I requested the wine guide contract ahead of time and reviewed it in detail, because I wanted to run a business that was as close to completely my own as possible. Once I decided, I contacted what Traveling Vineyard calls a “wine mamma” and was able to sign up online in just a matter of minutes. From there I was given access to an online university of wine knowledge, 10 bottles of wine to begin hosting tastings, and an entire success kit filled with everything I needed.
4) How did you get your first client or customer or job?
I hosted an amazing launch tasting event to break into the business. I invited family and friends to join me over amazing wine and food. After watching me in action, with my new wine knowledge it wasn’t hard to get a few bookings.
5) How do you market your business?
I market my business in a variety of ways but one of my main focuses is social media. I am on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and I am gaining followers, and peaking interests every day!
6) What does your usual day look like?
I am working my business, every-single-day. I spend time on social media and working on planning future marketing activities. I spend time learning about wine, marketing and business, and following up with leads and hosts. In the evenings I attend networking events or network from my couch, and follow-up with my team members to see how they are doing in their businesses.
7) What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
Everything about this journey is a learning experience. I am learning something new every day and as far as I am concerned, I am learning it at the right time.
8) What advice would you give someone who wants to work from home?
Do something you love. Above all else be passionate about what you’re doing, success will come.
